Fake Pearl
Blue Pearl variant - how to know if she's legit
Hi Everyone,
Hopefully this page will help you with identifying your Blue Pearl variant as legit.
Unfortunately there's been a probable fake version made of this Blue Pearl variant.
Which is, of course, absolutely terrible if you're looking for your long time grail. So I'm pretty reluctant to even put this page together...

This reversed mane 'Blue Pearl Variant' has been sold (via Ebay Belgium), then returned - as fake - and sold again by the same seller. She's now off the market and kept by a collector.
Both collectors have contacted me with pictures, with the question if someone has really gone through faking this pony
Fake Pearl is pictured in photos 1 and 2. Photos 3 and 4 are actual Blue Pearl variants for comparison.
Take note of the thinness of the tail and to how short the mane is of Fake Pearl (could be a regular mane and tail cut or thinned by being play wear)

Here are some tips for checking your Blue Pearl variant.
- Re-root check - pop the head off
The fastest way to check if your Blue Pearl is legit, is to pop her head of. Check the tail and if it has a washer, please check if it is the same size as the other G2 washer. Especially check for clamp marks, that would have been used to bend the tail washer back around the hair.
Inside the head you should find a factory weave, as is usual for a G2. You can grab any other G2 for comparison. The yellow glue is normal for both regular Blue Pearl and variant Blue Pearl.
Below you can see three pictures of the mane inside Fake Pearl's head. This has been faked so poorly that the purple mane of the regular Blue Pearl is still in the head.... So if there is any loose hair, check if there is some purple in there.

- Pictures one and two are the Fake Pearl. Note that the Fake Pearl has the number 1 and a vague other scribble.
- The third picture is a regular Blue Pearl. With the numbers 1 and 9
- The fourth picture is the actual variant. The Variant Blue Pearl has two '2's. Whether this is a solid method to ID a legit variant (or random serial numbers) still needs to be confirmed with more examples.
Check on the outside if the row of plugholes for the manes show some wear/ damage because of the rehairing. You can see the difference below between the blue row (rehaired) and the faded pink row (original Blue Pearl). Click to zoom in.
- Re-rooting
A freshly re-rooted pony has a mane and tail that look different than that of a pony's that is 20 years old. In my experience Nylon/ Kiwi hair has it's hair divided into little locks, which makes it easier for the customizer to pick out little hanks.
New hair also has a more silky feel to it. G2 hair should feel more stiff/ rigid.
- Pink
Blue Pearls pink is not available right now. Only a close match.
The best comparison ponies you can use are regular Blue Pearl, Eve and HM Ballerina.
Blue Pearl's pink is a relatively warm hue of pink that is very prone to fading.
Below are some examples (in different lighting) of the hue of pink you're looking for.
- Blue
The blue in the mane does not match any available rehairing colours right now. Blue Pearl's hair is a tad greener than 'Waternixie"
(Could be my Blue Pearl, but it wouldn't hurt to check!)
